"This Pale Mortal Shell" by D. Elizabeth Ayers. An Interview with D. Elizabeth Ayers by Jason E. Foss.
D. ELIZABETH AYERS
Great Authors have an imagination that creates unique ideas. They can visit some place that a large amount of people visited before but they see more. A specific place opens their mind to a book concept. Characters start to form in their mind. A story and a vision of how it will begin begins to develop. Next thing you know that very moment sparked an idea and a book is out that Readers loved. D. Elizabeth Ayers are one of these Great Authors. She let us know what motivated her."
Jason E Foss
Jason: "What motivated you to write "This Pale Mortal Shell"?"
D. Elizabeth:
"I was in England in 2003 and one of the places I visited was Bath. In the circus, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circus_(Bath), there is a beautiful grassy area and a very small copse of trees. Apparently, the architect who designed it believed Bath was the center of druid activity and designed the King’s Circus with the measurements of Stonehenge in mind. After visiting the Jane Austen House in the morning, I had a little picnic snack under those trees, and I communed with the trees. I also think I had a moment with the druids. I conceptualized a ghost story that involved a body snatching element. This initial idea took a little time to marinate, and I wrote some ideas out that never came to be. Ultimately, it became This Pale Mortal Shell."
Jason: "Which characteristic of Madison can you relate to the most and why?"
D. Elizabeth:
"Her tendency to care about people and their opinions of her even to the point of hurting herself."
Jason: "For your fans and book lovers briefly describe "This Pale Mortal Shell"."
D. Elizabeth:
"Without rehashing too much of what is already out there on the interwebs, "This Pale Mortal Shell" is:
"A magical love triangle of lost souls that pits brother against brother and proves rock n' roll never dies."
"The story revolves around three people who are desperately trying to manage a massive shift in the structure of their lives. Madison has spent the last five years being nothing other than the queen of the groupies, Joseph is a loner who barely exists at all, and Tristan is using both of them as puppets to avoid his fate. Essentially, he is not only the antagonist of the tale, he’s also the catalyst. Without him, the other two characters would never have been able to make any kind of change in their lives."
"This Pale Mortal Shell was my way of expressing my feelings about how the universe works, and maybe it gives readers a look into my philosophical and spiritual beliefs."
Jason: "Are you working on another book and if so what can you tell us about it?"
D. Elizabeth:
"I’m so glad you asked! I have the first in a series coming out this fall. The series is called The Selkie Chronicles, and the first of the series is called Only Skin Deep."
"Here’s a little teaser for that series":
"The selkie. Those hot-blooded, sea-dwelling creatures on which the phrase “love ‘em and leave ‘em” was coined. Unfortunately, in the twenty-first century, they’re not so focused on the seduction of unwitting but oh-so-willing humans even though it sure is fun once in a while. These days, they spend more time building up their own societies and domains and living within the constraints of their politics. Very few people even remember they exist, and a select few humans have been chosen for mutually beneficial partnerships to protect the selkie race from discovery. Occasionally, these relationships have tragic outcomes, but every once upon a time, the right human and the right selkie can set each other free."
"And the blurb for the first of the series:"
"Sloane’s finally met her tall, dark, and handsome. The only problem is, sometimes he’s chubby, spotty, and smells of herring. But hey, nobody’s perfect, right?"
"Sloane is a disowned heiress turned waitress living in a small seaside town in west Scotland. Llyr is a selkie prince living in a kingdom thousands of feet under the sea and hundreds of miles away. It seems unlikely that the two could even meet let alone fall in love. But when she inadvertently calls him, he is able to take human form and journey to the surface."
"Sloane and Llyr must battle disapproving fathers, wicked stepmothers and other deadly enemies to make their relationship work. Along the way they discover secret treasure, unravel the truth about the past, and overcome the sins of a father and a mother. Against all odds, they find a way to bridge the gap between humans and selkies, and together they break the ancient curse which threatens to keep them apart."
Jason: "For those that want to read your book what is the easiest way to buy "This Pale Mortal Shell"?"
D. Elizabeth:

"The Demon In The Mirror" by Jessaca Willis. An Interview with Jessaca Willis by Jason E. Foss.
JESSACA WILLIS
"Great Authors not only have a story to tell but they share it with the world. Action means everything. Many people have great ideas and they forget it the next day or over time. Great Authors are attached to their idea. Some Authors can't sleep because their untold story won't let them. Most of their creative imaginations won't let them forget it until it's written. And when they write it down the Readers are amazed by how detailed their writing. Almost as if it were meant for them to read. Jessaca Willis is one of those Great Authors. She lets us know where she got her motivation from."
Jason E. Foss
Jason: "What motivated you to write "The Demon In The Mirror"?"
Jessaca:
"Most of my stories come from my dreams, and that's where this one started. I had this bizarre dream that was in third person (so me, viewing it as a movie or bystander) where all of these murders kept happening around this little girl and no one knew why. In the dream though, the little girl wasn't a demon, she was just a regular ol' human being, and the person responsible wound up being some witch or something—I can't quite remember anymore. So, that's where The Demon in the Mirror started, but kind of transformed from there. I joined a short story group a few months ago, and each month they give us a new one-word prompt. One month in particular, our prompt was "lightning," and for some reason, it reminded me of that dream. Because I couldn't sleep one night, I started tinkering with a book cover that had two demons on the front (so, a different one that the final version), but it was enough inspiration to get me started writing what I think wound up being a really exciting and mysterious story!"
Jason: "Which characteristic of Eureka can you relate to the most and why?"
Jessaca:
"Oh man, things are about to get real. I feel like I should start by saying this could be a possible trigger warning to some folks who have experienced loss maybe?"
"So, like Eureka (who's nickname is Euri, in the book), I too can have a temper that sometimes gets me in trouble, which is how this whole story starts. She says some pretty hurtful things to someone she cares about and she's never able to take them back. I've definitely been there. Three or four years ago, one of my best friends and I got into a fight and we stopped talking for over a year. He tried making amends, but I just wouldn't budge. By the time I had finally decided to move past everything, he passed away in a motorcycle accident. Wow, actually, it hadn't even dawned on me until you asked, but yeah, I can relate to Euri's grief and regret in this story a lot!"
"She and I also share the experience of being sort of an outcast around the age of sixteen. Whereas Euri is coping with the loss of her sister, for me it was my parent's separation and moving out of the small town I'd grown up in—oh, and I guess that's another link between us too: moving away. Wow, I really hadn't noticed how similar we were until this question!
Jason: "For your fans and book lovers, briefly describe "The Demon In The Mirror"."
Jessaca:
"Gladly! The Demon in the Mirror is a YA Paranormal short story about first-year demon Eureka Belvedere finding herself stuck in the middle of a series of murders that happen at the Academy of the Forsaken—a school for young demons and angels.
Jason: "Are you working on another book and if so what can you tell us about it?"
Jessaca:
"I am always working on something else. Right now, my primary project is editing Puppets Dream, which is book 2 of my post-apocalyptic fantasy series called The Awakened. I'm not sure what I can share about it that wouldn't also give away parts of book 1, but one thing that readers can expect is that there are hints of mystery in this book, so pay attention to every detail if you want to crack the "case!""
Jason: "For those that want to read your book what is the easiest way to buy "The Demon In The Mirror"?"
Jessaca:
"The Demon in the Mirror is available for purchase on Amazon, or free through Kindle Unlimited. Subscribers of my newsletter can also expect a teaser copy during the first week of September, so if you'd like an early glance at the opening scene, be sure to subscribe!"

"Jessaca Willis was motivated by a Dream. There are many things I love about Jessaca. Two are my favorite. The Passion she shows in writing her book. She lost sleep. She didn't waste the moment. She started working on a book cover. Even though it wasn't the final book cover it inspired her to finish a great Book and now it is published. My second favorite thing about her is how she can relate to her main character. She shared with us how her parent's separation and moving away from the small town she grew up in effected her. Her being open to us about that is very impressive because many people can relate. That's how main characters become some of our favorites. This great Author's openness and ability to create a character from her core makes it easy for Readers to feel connected to the main character and want to know what happens to them throughout the book. All of her books have amazing reviews and this one will be no different. Click on the Link above and buy "The Demon In The Mirror".

"My Path Of Faith" by Barbie Schuchart-Carlisle. An Interview with Barbie Schuchart Carlisle by Jason E. Foss
BARBIE SCHUCHART-CARLISLE
"Great Authors have something unique about them that separates themselves from others. They stand out. They write with a sense of Purpose. Their Passion inspires a lot of the people that reads their books. Books are amazing. It can change moods. It can motivate someone that lost hope. However it's not just about the book. Behind the book is an Author that had a vision. Barbie is one of those Great Authors. She was happy enough to let us know what motivates her."
Jason E. Foss
Jason: "What motivated you to write "My Path Of Faith, A Life's Journey Learning To Love"?"
Barbie:
"This is very simple. God. I’ve been writing poetry since I was a little girl. My oldest brother would put my poems to music and sing them at our family hootenannies! I’ve had God close to my heart all my life and as a child I’d talk to him as my best friend. My mother always made fun of me for this but I didn’t care. God told me I would be writing My Path of Faith and my mission in life would be to show and share his love with everyone."
Jason: ""My Path of Faith, A Life's Journey Learning to Love" sounds like something that can and has touched a lot of people already. What do you feel is the first step in learning to love?
"
Barbie:
"You have to completely surrender to God. “Completely" with everything you are."
"Confess to him all of your “ugly, dark secrets.” Even the ones which others have done to you. Find your part in them. Mine with my mother was as simple as I carried my childhood hatred for her and the self-loathing which she instilled in me into my adulthood instead of listening to God and forgiving her. I lived my life trying to hurt her but instead I only hurt myself.)
"Ask him for his forgiveness. He’s always there and waiting for you."
"This one is so simple, we were made for it but as humans have been conditioned otherwise. “Love" Not just from your heart and needs but from your very soul. As I talk about it in my book, I went to a spiritual healing doctor, an M.D., in 2013. As he was working on me I asked him: “how can I get more of God?” No matter what I do, I can't get close enough. He replied: “Total surrender.” I said I have but “I want so much more!” He then put a hand on my shoulder, looked me dead in the eyes and said: “Love!” I felt my entire being change at that moment! I used to say I have to love you but I don’t have to like you. Wrong! I was playing God and judging others by not accepting them just as they are right where they are! My newfound faith was put to the test four hours later when I arrived home to find my belongings on the street and in the yard where I was living! You'll have to read my book to find out why and what happened! "
"When I look at someone I don’t see their physical appearance. All I see is their heart and soul as God created them to be. I see only their beauty, not what they may be going through or how they look. This is a gift I want to give everyone because it is beyond amazing or anything I can describe. A love like you’ve never known before. If I could hand it to you I would but, you have to want it and find it through God. I’m merely here to be his example and help others find it."
Jason: "For your fans and book lovers, briefly describe “My Path of Faith."
Barbie:
"What I like to say first of all is it is NOT a religious book! My Path of Faith describes parts of my life, my trials, tribulations and happy times. My focus of My Path of Faith though is not about what I’ve been through in life but how God has always been there even when I turned away from him. I’ve been through several abusive relationships starting with my mother. Was date raped on my first date. Kicked out of our home at age 17 because of it and in my 50’s I was homeless for 8 months. I tried committing suicide four times, starting at age 16 with the last time in 2016 when I drank antifreeze after almost being beaten to death by the man I’d been living with for two years. Two days later was pronounced DOA by the paramedics. I had a near death experience then too."
"There are pictures of things that happened to me and some of my poems are also included. This is a book to show no matter what we go through, unconditional love and God are all that matters."
"At the end of each chapter I have and describe for the reader: “Where was God in My Path of Faith.” And then after this I have a scripture that coincides with the chapter.
d. As a result of my book I’ve founded “My Hand in His Ministry,” reaching out to help heal the broken as I too once was. You can find this on Facebook."
Jason: "Are you working on another book and if so, what can you tell us about it?
"
Barbie:
"I’m getting ready to publish a book of poetry called; “Be Quiet, Be Still, Listen to and Feel the ‘WHISPERED WORDS BREATHED UPON MY SOUL!”"
"I’m also completing a second book called, “Walk in Power” which leads you through how to learn to love! It even has pages for writing and journaling as you grow! "
Jason: "For those that want to read your book, what is the easiest way to buy My Path of Faith? "
Barbie:
"My book is on most online bookstores, BAM (Books A Million), Barnes and Noble, Apple, Goodreads and Amazon in eBook and paperback."
The website for Amazon is:
Paperback - $14.99
Kindle - $2.99
"You can also view a short YouTube commercial of it":
"Anyone can also reach me at mypathoffaith@gmail.com for a speaking engagement, book signing or to share their story or request a signed copy of my book."
"I also do photography and put my pictures or yours on canvas. It is “Created on Angel’s Wings” my brand: “On Angel’s Wings Comes Love from the Cross”"
"Here is a review from Reader’ Favorite":
Review
""My Path of Faith is an inspiring story, one that will encourage readers to look past their hurts and find hope in a love that is unconditionally given. It contains lessons of faith, parenting, self-love, and healing.""
CLOSING
"Barbie was motivated by her Faith. What I like most about Barbie is that she uses her gift of writing to share her life. Anyone that is losing hope, feels lost, or somewhere along the way lost their direction Barbie took the time to give them a possible path they can take to regain focus. But she walks you through the steps. She doesn't just tell you a few words and expect you to understand on your own. She added poems and pictures to give Readers a unique experience. It is nice to hear that she aims to heal the broken. She is working hard to show those in need what "Unconditinal Love" is and how it can change someone's life. In life when things get tough options are very important to overcome. Barbie is one of those Great Authors that wanted to create an option for those that feel they have none and can use some hope and inspiration. Click on the Link above and buy "My Path Of Faith".

"The Seclusion" by Jacqui Castle. An Interview with Jacqui Castle by Jason E. Foss
JACQUI CASTLE
"Great Authors have a lot of things about them that separates them from other writers. Their stories help our imagination to come alive in their words. Some of their Fans and Readers live a normal life and they look forward to Reading something intense. When they are bored they can rely on the excitement these Great Authors provide them in each and every chapter. There is something about the way they balance a great story with just the right touch of romance as Main Characters become some your favorites as each page is turned. Jacqui Castle is one of these Great Authors. She let us know what motivated her."
Jason E. Foss
Jason: What motivated you to write "The Seclusion"?
Jacqui:
"The idea for The Seclusion came to me during the primary election campaign. I started it as a short story, and it snowballed from there. The first draft was finished in the summer of 2016, and since then it has evolved. It became a cathartic experience that I turned to every day for several months in a row as I started to play with some of the 'what ifs' that were troubling me at the time."
"Though it does walk the line between fact and fiction, more than anything The Seclusion, like other fictional stories, is about the characters. There is a splash of romance and a healthy dose of perseverance as the main characters explore what makes life worth living by finding joy in unlikely places. It is about digging deep, figuring out how to tap into your own truth in a society that conditions residents since birth."
Jason: "What characteristic of Patricia can you relate to the most and why?"
Jacqui:
"Patricia was named after my grandmother, and in my mind when I was writing her, I was imagining a young woman down the familial line a few generations. So, she basically transformed into an amalgam of many of the women in my family. I'd say one of the most relatable aspects that I wrote into Patch's character was her anxiety. It is something a lot of people struggle with in our current political and societal climate, and something that I struggle with, so I wanted to write that into my main character."
Jason: "For your fans and book lovers briefly describe "The Seclusion""
Jacqui:
"The Seclusion is a science fiction, dystopian novel that takes place in a future America in the year 2090. The country, at this time, is secluded from the rest of the world and is run by a group called The Board. Much like in books such as 1984 or Fahrenheit 451, surveillance is heavy and information is tightly regulated."
"The two main characters, Patricia (or Patch) and Rexx are scientists who stumble upon a cache of hidden contraband left behind by someone in the past. They start to question the information that they receive from their government, information that they have always trusted wholeheartedly. This leads them on a mission to begin unraveling the true history of what has lead the country to it's seclusion from the rest of the world and the very real impact it is having on people they know and love."
Jason: "Are you working on another book and if so what can you tell us about it?"
Jacqui:
"I am! I'm currently drafting the sequel to The Seclusion. The first book was a crowdfunding endeavor supported in its early days by over 400 backers, and then published by the reader-driven publisher Inkshares. The sequel will follow a similar path and after the crowdfunding campaign wraps up, production will begin, and I would like to think it will hit shelves in late 2020 or 2021."
"Anyone interested in becoming a backer for that project can learn more here, and will receive a free copy of book one plus other perks as a thank you for their support. I am also working on another, separate novel with a working title of 'Apate.' The story is still in the early stages, but I'm incredibly excited for it to develop. Apate will take place in the near future and will be told from two vastly different perspectives — a congressional intern's and a NASA scientist's. There will be an asteroid (named Apate after the Greek Goddess of deceit) plummeting toward Earth, and let's just say that all is not what it seems to be and that a few disgruntled scientists have reached their breaking point when it comes to disrespect and funding cuts and they have a few tricks up their sleeve."
Jason: "For those that want to read your book what is the easiest way to buy "The Seclusion"?"
Jacqui:
"The Seclusion is available at all major retailers including Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Indie Bound(order to your local bookstore). You can also order directly from me, or as noted before I'm offering a free copy for all who support the crowdfunding campaign for the sequel."

CLOSING
"Jacqui Castle was motivated by the primary election campaign. There are plenty of things to like about this Great Author but here are some of my favorites. The fact that one of her main characters Patricia was named after her Grandmother and the way she imagined many women in her family generations was very creative. I know her family must appreciate that. Another one of my favorite things was how she lets us know that she deals with anxiety just like her main character. Many people deal with the same thing and can relate to that. When you look at her talent and all the great reviews from her book she proves to us that you can have anxiety and still be successful. If you are looking to read a book that's intriguing and gives your imagination a look at a possible future election this book is the one to read. Click on the Link 1 above and buy "The Seclusion". "Love Is Not Love" by Candice Lee Brown. An Interview with Candice Lee Brown by Jason E. Foss
CANDICE LEE BROWN
"Great Authors always seem to have something that drives them. Whether it is that story that they can't get out of their head or the desire to inspire others there is something about them that stands out. There are some Authors that have had quite a Journey. And when the smoke cleared there stood someone smiling at tomorrow knowing that they conquered the road behind them and the road ahead of them was cleared because they knew the person was a Fighter. Someone that not only overcame the odds but showed others that they can do it to. Candice Lee Brown is one of those Great Authors. She let us know what motivates her."
Jason E. Foss
Jason: "What motivated you to start writing your book?"
Candice:
"My author brand, women who overcome the odds, was birthed from my own experience as an overcomer. I became inspired to tell the story of a young woman who escapes sex trafficking by a friend who runs a home for girls with that background. My new adult suspense novel, Love is Not Love, is the result of that inspiration"
Jason: "Which character can you relate to most and why?"
Candice:
"I relate somewhat to the main character, Ceara because, like me, she overcomes an addiction to cocaine. However, it is her rescuer, drug-dealer-gone-straight Danny, whom I most relate to. Danny has a rough past but a heart of gold, and he longs to redeem his past by keeping Ceara hidden and safe from the man who trafficked her. Danny longs to save her but, like the many women I've mentored over the years, there are ways she ends up saving him instead."
Jason: "For your fans and those who will want to buy your book, briefly describe what is about."
Candice:
"Ceara O'Doughtery is a young woman with a new lease on life. Following an encounter with a dealer intent on going straight, she ends up on the run from the man who trafficked her for sex and drugs. Scorned and bruised by Ceara’s disappearance, her obsessed pimp methodically tracks her. Despite Ceara’s brand-new town and identity, he utilizes charm and an unlikely ally to hunt her down. With each thwarted attempt to find her, his hunger and obsession mount. Her formidable mind makes locating her a challenge, but he knows it’s only a matter of time before he tracks her down and presents her with a choice: return to the only person who has ever shown her love or choose to end a pathetic existence without him. Killing Ceara would hurt him, but he’s willing to make that sacrifice to save the woman he loves."
Jason: "Is there any other book you are working on besides the one that is coming out? If so, what can you share with us about it?"
Candice:
"In addition to Love is Not Love, I am also working on a book on prayer that is a partial memoire. The working title is Cocaine to the Classroom and takes prayers I prayed both as an atheist and a young Christian, paralleling prayers in the Bible."
Jason: "For your fans and book lovers that want to read your book when it comes out, what is the best way for them to reach you?"
My website is https://candiceleebrown.com I publish a blog on faith and recovery every Monday and include updates on my works in progress.

"Candice Lee Brown is motivated by women that overcame the odds. She's living proof that you can do anything you set your mind to. My favorite thing about Candice is she not only overcomes any obstacles put in front of her path but she chooses to be there for other people to make sure they have a fighting chance to do the same. There is something about someone that has Leader qualities that inspire people. 'If she can do it then I can do it'. That is HOPE. And when you are nicer to give hope to a lot of people than you can truly make a difference. Her new suspense novel "Love Is Not Love" will be added to this blog once the release date is set. "Slow Drip" by Gary Polisano. Interview with Gary Polisano by Jason E. Foss
GARY POLISANO
"Great Authors leave a lasting impression on the Reader. They make you think throughout the book never really knowing what's going to happen next thrilling us with the element of surprise. Their books stand out. Their plot keeps you glued to the pages. And when you are done Reading their book you don't say 'I just read this interesting book but I'm having a hard time remembering who wrote it'. No, you remember the name of the book Title and the name of the Author. Gary Polisano is one of these Great Authors. He was nice enough to let us know what motivates him."
Jason: "What motivated you to write "Slow Drip"?"
Gary:
"I'm a big fan of detective mysteries and thriller mysteries, especially Michael Connelly and Ken Follett. Always wanted to write a book and now that I am partially retired, I have the time to do it. My goal was to write the book and leave it be, just satisfied that I had accomplished something that always interested me. However, as friends and family asked to read the manuscript, they all seemed to be highly impressed with the plot, story-line and characters. Their encouragement has motivated me to continue on and pursue the "series" with a renewed vigor and passion."
Jason: "Which character do you admire the most and why?"
Gary:
"That would be the protagonist and lead character, Tina Patterson, a detective that excels even under adversity. She however, is flawed (like all of us), but in a way that both helps her and hurts her. She is truly an overachiever and is often underestimated even by those that trust her. In the end, (and in the case of Slow Drip), with a bit of help, she comes out on top."
Jason: "For your fans and book lovers briefly describe "Slow Drip"."
Gary:
"There are really two stories told in Slow Drip (a title that describes the character and method of the killer) . The under-story is about a high school baseball star with the dreams of playing in the "bigs" some day. He gets hit in the head with the baseball during a game and is rushed to emergency. Days later, he finds the body of the third victim of a serial killer that is on the loose. Events cause his life to get turned upside down, school work, a budding love affair, the relationship with his parents and most importantly for him, his baseball ability diminished rapidly. He hold some keys to the murders that stem from his discovery. The primary story focuses on the rampage of the serial killer and how he selects, plans and plots his next victim(s). He is meticulous in his planning and execution of each murder - but something goes wrong, forcing him to act on impulse. The murderer is skilled and brilliant and he kills his victims in a particular sick manner while leaving intentional clues for the police, that emboldens him in a unique way. Tina Patterson is the detective that chases the murderer while under pressure to bring him quickly to justice, all the while having her ability as a police detective questioned by her commanding officer. However, the reader learns that Tina possesses an extra tool in her crime solving arsenal, that of a sixth-sense ... one of intuition. She relies on her gut feelings often in her decision making and more times than not, they pay off. Eventually, the teenage baseballer and Detective Patterson help each other, in more ways than one!"
Jason: "Are you working on another book and if so what can you tell us about it?"
Gary:
"The second in the series, yet to be titled, picks up the very next day that Slow Drip ends. Readers will understand why as they get to the final chapter of Slow Drip. The focus again is on Tina Patterson and her ability to solve a new set of murders and related crimes. There is also a key, loose end. from Slow Drip that needs closure, and again, it will become obvious to readers early on, in the new book."

CLOSING
The encouragement of Gary Polisano's family that motivated him to continue the "series" with even more passion than before. My favorite thing about Gary was the fact that he is a fan of Detective and Thriller mysteries. When you are a fan of something or someone that shows that one has the ability to show appreciation. By recognizing how great someone's work is will reflect in your own work. His Friends and Family saw something in his talent for writing instantly and thankfully Great books were created because of it. What motivates us in life is just the beginning of the Journey. Gary Polisano used that motivation to create unique stories. He has a lot of fans and Great reviews from Satisfied Readers. He not only writes for his love of Thriller Mysteries but he also writes for each and every person that picks up his books. Click on the link above and buy "Slow Drip".

"The Dark Restarter" by Sean McMahon. An Interview with Sean McMahon by Jason E. Foss
SEAN MCMAHON
"I am always fascinated by Great Authors. Each one standing out in their own way and satisfying their fans with books that never disappoint. Sean McMahon is one of these Great Authors. This is my second Interview with him and once again he has the same high energy and humble appreciation for the position he put himself in as a Great Author. His success is not just chance rather his quality of work and his unique creative abilities. From his website to his book covers along with each of the chapters in his books his attention to detail creates a one of a kind experience for all of his Readers. Now he's back to share with us what motivated him for "The Dark Restarter"."
Jason E. Foss
Jason: "What motivated you to write "The Dark Restarter"?"
Sean: "Hey Jason! Thank you for having me back!"
"My goal with my debut Fir Lodge was to make a self-contained story that felt complete for the reader by the end. But early on in the outlining stage I knew there was more of Hal and Kara’s story that I wanted to tell. Interwoven between the chapters of Fir Lodge are many clues as to the true endgame of their story, and so The Dark Restarter was always a part of the story’s design."
"There were certain characters and components that I left vague in the first novel, because I knew I wanted to explore them in much greater detail. But as for the motivation to write it, it was honestly all thanks to the readers, man! Their kindness and support in getting the first book off the ground, coupled with the way Hal and Kara resonated with them made it a joy to write."
"I didn’t just want to write the sequel, I owed it to the readership to do so."
Jason: "What characteristic of Hal can you relate to the most and why?"
Sean:
"I think with Hal, he wants to do the right thing. He tries his best to make the right call and the right choices. But like all of us, sometimes he gets it wrong. For me, Hal gets to represent the reader, almost. He has this wacky way of breaking the fourth wall, albeit only slightly. He sees things unfolding and if they don’t feel real or true he shouts it from the rooftops. So I think that’s the part of Hal I see in myself a little. He won’t be quiet if something isn’t right. He speaks up haha."
Jason: "For your fans and book lovers briefly describe "The Dark Restarter"."
Sean: "Uh oh! Quick Jason, to the elevator!"
"Okay first up you say fans and that still blows my mind that there are people out there, actual humans who are reading my thing. I’ve been incredibly lucky to be welcomed into the writing arena the way I have, by both writers and readers."
<elevator dings>
"Dammit, I wasted a floor!"
"In Fir Lodge, we had good people thrust into an impossible situation, trying to fix time and save their future, whilst trying to save the lives of others along the way. The Dark Restarter is the other side of that coin. I wanted to ask the question “but what if you didn’t care about other people?” What if you had no empathy at all? And what if someone of that dark disposition, someone devoid of compassion or the wellbeing of others had access to the same sandbox of abilities a Restarter had?"
"What effect would that have on the future? How big would those ripples get?"
"If I did my job right, that’s The Dark Restarter."
Jason: "Are you working on another book and if so what can you tell us about it?"
Sean:
"I am! You know, I was going to take a break. Everyone told me to take a break. In fairness I left it 24 hours after the launch of TDR before stating the next instalment of the Restarter series.
It’s very early days. I have the outline and I’m about 30 Chapters in right now.
But what I can tell you is the theme I’m going for. As we fly towards the finish line of Hal and Kara’s adventure through time, there are a lot of loose ends to tie up.
The third book focuses on the desire to find purpose, that little itch I think we all have in terms of wanting to be a part of something bigger.
I aim to explore the theme of legacy. And how the future could evolve into something far different to what we imagine. Or want."
Jason: "For those that want to read your book what is the easiest way to buy
"The Dark Restarter"?
Sean:
"Both Fir Lodge and The Dark Restarter are available on Amazon and the Kindle Store, both digitally and in paperback. If you live in the States, buying the paperback will let you download a digital copy for free. And there are actually some sneaky Easter eggs that complement each version."
"It’s been cool catching up dude, thank you for the opportunity!"
CLOSING
What I like most about listening to Sean was how his Passion for writing is constant but his motivation to write "The Dark Restarter" was his Readers. The fact that he doesn't take his supporters for granted is refreshing to hear. His appreciation for them gives his words much more meaning then if he merely wrote for himself. When you write with a purpose that is bigger than yourself that is when a great story is written. Sean McMahon is one of those Authors that refuses to give his Readers any less than his best.
