"The Dark Restarter" by Sean McMahon. An Interview with Sean McMahon by Jason E. Foss

                                                                                       SEAN MCMAHON

"I am always fascinated by Great Authors.  Each one standing out in their own way and satisfying their fans with books that never disappoint.  Sean McMahon is one of these Great Authors.  This is my second Interview with him and once again he has the same high energy and humble appreciation for the position he put himself in as a Great Author.  His success is not just chance rather his quality of work and his unique creative abilities.  From his website to his book covers along with each of the chapters in his books his attention to detail creates a one of a kind experience for all of his Readers.  Now he's back to share with us what motivated him for "The Dark Restarter"."

                                                                                                             Jason E. Foss

Jason:                           "What motivated you to write "The Dark Restarter"?"

Sean:                            "Hey Jason! Thank you for having me back!"

"My goal with my debut Fir Lodge was to make a self-contained story that felt complete for the reader by the end. But early on in the outlining stage I knew there was more of Hal and Kara’s story that I wanted to tell. Interwoven between the chapters of Fir Lodge are many clues as to the true endgame of their story, and so The Dark Restarter was always a part of the story’s design."

"There were certain characters and components that I left vague in the first novel, because I knew I wanted to explore them in much greater detail. But as for the motivation to write it, it was honestly all thanks to the readers, man!  Their kindness and support in getting the first book off the ground, coupled with the way Hal and Kara resonated with them made it a joy to write."

"I didn’t just want to write the sequel, I owed it to the readership to do so."

Jason:                            "What characteristic of Hal can you relate to the most and why?"

Sean:

"I think with Hal, he wants to do the right thing. He tries his best to make the right call and the right choices. But like all of us, sometimes he gets it wrong. For me, Hal gets to represent the reader, almost. He has this wacky way of breaking the fourth wall, albeit only slightly. He sees things unfolding and if they don’t feel real or true he shouts it from the rooftops. So I think that’s the part of Hal I see in myself a little. He won’t be quiet if something isn’t right. He speaks up haha."

Jason:                            "For your fans and book lovers briefly describe "The Dark Restarter"."

Sean:                              "Uh oh! Quick Jason, to the elevator!"

"Okay first up you say fans and that still blows my mind that there are people out there, actual humans who are reading my thing. I’ve been incredibly lucky to be welcomed into the writing arena the way I have, by both writers and readers."

                                                                      <elevator dings>

                                          "Dammit, I wasted a floor!"

"In Fir Lodge, we had good people thrust into an impossible situation, trying to fix time and save their future, whilst trying to save the lives of others along the way. The Dark Restarter is the other side of that coin. I wanted to ask the question “but what if you didn’t care about other people?” What if you had no empathy at all? And what if someone of that dark disposition, someone devoid of compassion or the wellbeing of others had access to the same sandbox of abilities a Restarter had?"

"What effect would that have on the future? How big would those ripples get?"

"If I did my job right, that’s The Dark Restarter."

Jason:                                  "Are you working on another book and if so what can you tell us about it?"

Sean:

"I am! You know, I was going to take a break. Everyone told me to take a break. In fairness I left it 24 hours after the launch of TDR before stating the next instalment of the Restarter series.

It’s very early days. I have the outline and I’m about 30 Chapters in right now.

But what I can tell you is the theme I’m going for. As we fly towards the finish line of Hal and Kara’s adventure through time, there are a lot of loose ends to tie up.

The third book focuses on the desire to find purpose, that little itch I think we all have in terms of wanting to be a part of something bigger.

I aim to explore the theme of legacy. And how the future could evolve into something far different to what we imagine. Or want."

Jason:                                    "For those that want to read your book what is the easiest way to buy
                                               "The Dark Restarter"?

Sean:

"Both Fir Lodge and The Dark Restarter are available on Amazon and the Kindle Store, both digitally and in paperback. If you live in the States, buying the paperback will let you download a digital copy for free. And there are actually some sneaky Easter eggs that complement each version."

"It’s been cool catching up dude, thank you for the opportunity!"

                                                                                         CLOSING

What I like most about listening to Sean was how his Passion for writing is constant but his motivation to write "The Dark Restarter" was his Readers.  The fact that he doesn't take his supporters for granted is refreshing to hear.  His appreciation for them gives his words much more meaning then if he merely wrote for himself.  When you write with a purpose that is bigger than yourself that is when a great story is written.  Sean McMahon is one of those Authors that refuses to give his Readers any less than his best.  Click on the link below and buy "The Dark Restarter".
