Sean McMahon "Fir Lodge" An Interview with Sean McMahon by Jason E. Foss
SEAN MCMAHON
"There are plenty of great Writers out there. A lot of my Favorites are so cool and down to earth and open up to their fans any chance they can. There is one in particular that I was referred to by another great Writer. His name is Sean McMahon. I am determined to find out what motivated him to write his new book "Fir Lodge". His high energy and passion for writing is hard to overlook. I also noticed he always shows love to his Restarter community. No wonder he has such a loyal following."
Jason E. Foss
Jason: "Welcome Sean!"
Sean: "Hey Jason! Thank you so much for having me on your blog!"
Jason: "Anytime! What motivated you to write “Fir Lodge”?"
Sean: "Coffee. Lots and lots of coffee." <laughs>
"It was a unique situation that led to the creation of my first novel. I was attending a friend’s thirtieth birthday at the real life Fir Lodge in Norfolk. A chance encounter led to a series of events that, to say, would be to spoil, but it led to me and two of my friends joking how it would make a good movie."
"With no idea on how to write a screenplay, or a novel for that matter, I began researching on how to do just that. And after writing my first page, the ideas started coming thick and fast. Before I knew it I had outlined my story. From then on out, what motivated me was the need to complete it! To bring this crazy idea into the real world. Every spare moment I had was consumed by it. It was a real labour of love. But I think the real motivator to write it is that Fir Lodge was a story I wanted to read."
Jason: "Your website is really cool. Not too many people get that creative to make you feel like you're really entering the lodge. You're book cover looks great too. What is the main reason you go the extra mile to give your fans a great experience before they even open the book?"
Sean: "Dude! You’re the first person to ever mention that my website is designed to simulate entering a lodge! Thank you so much for noticing, that was always my intention when building it. Of course, before the book launched, those visiting the site had no context. It was a muddle at first, trying to establish branding. So if that’s okay, I’d like to set the record straight. Fir Lodge is the name of the first book in The Restarter Series. The Restarter Lodge is the home of the Restarters, where readers (or potential readers) can go to learn more."
"That is very kind of you to say that I’ve gone the extra mile. From the moment I put pen to paper on this project, I wanted that to show. I wanted the cover to be vibrant, and draw people to it. After all, I didn’t play it safe with the title <laughs> but that was also intentional. I did a lot of research on cover designs, and quickly realized that my ideas didn’t match my abilities. So the first thing I did once I had a chapter under my belt was hire a cover designer. The wonderful Sam Moore took my terrible sketches and made them into what you see now."
"If you’re working on a book, I strongly recommend doing the same. There’s no shame in acknowledging when you need help. And the cover is super important."
Jason: "What is your favourite thing about Hal and Kara and what is their strongest quality that separates them from the others?"
Sean: "Oh man, my favourite thing about Hal and Kara is how different they both are to one another. I tried to craft a sort of buddy cop dynamic between them. Hal, for example, is very much clued up on movie references, cinematic tropes, and bases his entire understanding of time travel on the movies he’s seen and half-finished articles he may have read in the past, so to speak."
"Kara, on the other hand, is far more pragmatic. She isn’t obsessed with pop culture like Hal. I wouldn’t go as far as saying she’s overly analytical, but she keeps Hal grounded. She’ll call him out on his BS. And she has an internal strength that, as the book progresses, is going to take her character into some interesting directions."
"It was important to me that my characters lived in the “real world.” Our world. That Hal had seen the movies you and I have, read the books we have. I wanted the reader to feel like they were learning how the time travel scenario would play out in tandem with Hal and Kara. For the reader to know everything the protagonists know as it happens."
Jason: "Briefly describe what "Fir Lodge" is about."
Sean: "Fir lodge is the first instalment in a time travel adventure series. It focuses primarily on two ordinary people who are thrust into an utterly unreal scenario. Together Hal and Kara must unravel the secrets hidden within their own past in order to make sense of it all. And decide exactly what they are prepared to sacrifice to defeat a malevolent force that has already won."
Jason: "I understand you’re currently working on your sequel? What can you tell us about it?"
Sean: "I can tell you that writing sequels is hard, man! <laughs> The writing community warned me how hard it is to write your second book. They weren’t kidding!"
"Absolutely! The manuscript for the sequel to Fir Lodge, titled The Dark Restarter, is currently with my editors. Once they’ve gone through it, it will be full steam ahead. I’m hoping to get it into the hands of the Fir Lodge readership early next year."
" 'The Dark Restarter' is set six weeks after the events of Fir Lodge, and will serve as both a prequel and a sequel."
Jason: "For all your fans and the readers that want to buy your book what is the best way for them to buy "Fir Lodge"?"
Sean: "All my fans <laughs>. Shout out to the Restarter community! Without them I wouldn’t be talking to you right now!"
"But it’s always an honour to earn a new reader! You can purchase Fir Lodge by popping onto Amazon and typing Fir Lodge. It’s also available digitally on kindle."
"That weird title really helps new readers in refining their search. Totes intentional. Sort of.
Thank you so much for featuring me Jason, absolute pleasure hanging out!"
Jason: "Same here! We look forward to having you back to give us some details when 'The Dark Restarter" is out!"
CLOSING
So Coffee and real life events at an actual 30th birthday event at the real life Fir Lodge in Norfolk motivated Sean to write such a great book. However the Biggest motivator is that "Fir Lodge" is a story he wanted to read. So with no story like it he decided to take matters into his own hands and write it himself. No wonder entering his website looks so realistic as if you are entering the Lodge itself. His book cover is so well done thanks to Sean leaving his ideas of a vibrant cover into the hands of an excellent cover designer Sam Moore who brought his ideas to life. If you want to read a book from an Author that puts his all into everything he works on go to Amazon.com and buy "Fir Lodge".

Elizabeth Katona "After The End" An Interview with Elizabeth Katona by Jason E. Foss
ELIZABETH KATONA
"There are many writer's that stand out in many ways. Elizabeth Katona has such a great writing style and her page Literally makes me feel like I am at Disney. It was very important to find out where this great writer finds her motivation. She was able to answer a few questions for us to give us an idea what she has been up to."
Jason E. Foss
Jason: 1) What motivates you when you write and what motivates you in life in general?
Elizabeth:
For me, writing is so ingrained in who I am and what I've been doing since I was young. The need to create and have a space to myself is definitely what motivates my writing! In general, having a passionate and purposeful life is something that motivates me to do the absolute best I can in any task - be it my job, my blog or my books.
Jason: 2) Elizabethkatona.com is such a beautiful website. It has a magical Disney vibe to it. What is your favorite thing about Disney and what is your favorite part of your website?
Elizabeth:
Thank you! And I'm so glad you mentioned Disney. :) Disney is one of my favorite things. I live in Orlando and frequent the parks, and what draws me to that brand is their pursuit of dreams and refusal to believe anything is impossible. My Instagram, @elizabethkatona, also features tons of Disney content. That's one of my other creative outlets, in addition to my blog. Having my own site that's an expression of who I am and what I love is probably my favorite part.
Jason: 3) What kind of book are you thinking of Writing and briefly explain what it is about?
Elizabeth:
My current work in progress is my second manuscript, and it's completely different from my first. I'm hesitant to slap on a genre on it right now, but it'll be young adult. Essentially, a seventeen-year-old aspiring engineer gets caught in a deadly public relations war between two competing theme parks. I currently work in PR, so I'm excited to bring that perspective into my fiction writing.
Jason: 4) Tell me about your new blog 'It's all about what happens after "The End". That's such an original concept and something many of us writers don't think about. What made you come up with that idea?
Elizabeth:
When I finished my first manuscript, a lot of friends would ask "so, now what do you do?" It was a question I had when I typed 'The End,' so I figured it would be a useful post for other writers or even people who know writers. For me, I immediately thought once I was done writing to skip back to chapter one and start editing. The tips I read advised against that, so it prompted me to research best practices for post-first draft.
Jason: 5) 24 things you've learned in 24 years was actually one of the reasons why I reached out to you. Great advice and life lessons. How do you come up with these unique concepts to write about?
Elizabeth:
"Thank you so much! I'd seen some other writers and YouTubers do a '# of things I've learned in # of years,' so it inspired me to do the same. For that one, I really wanted to focus on being positive and emphasize that you're never alone in what you go through. You'll also never stop learning, so I hope to do one when I'm 25!"
CLOSING
"The need to create and and have a space to herself motivates Elizabeth to write as well as anything else she pursues in life. It's amazing how all of these unique writers have different things that motivate them. Go to Elizabethkatona.com and check out her website. It literally reminds me of Disney theme parks with its pastel colors and pics. She has a lot of great advice and concepts to help writers and people in general to have a positive perspective and approach to anything we want in life"

H.M. Gooden "Dream Of Darkness" An Interview with H.M. Gooden by Jason E. Foss
H.M. GOODEN
"I am very interested in what motivates great writers. There are a few that stand out and I consider to be my Favorites. H.M. Gooden is one of them. She was able to take some time out to give us an idea what motivates her and what she has been up to lately."
Jason E. Foss
Jason: 1) What motivates you to write and what's your motivation in life in general?
Heather:
"My motivation for writing is that I’ve always loved the written word in all its forms- poetry, short stories, novels from many genres. My day job is rewarding but emotionally draining and writing allows me to express myself as well as escape when needed ;)"
"My life motivation is to be the best person I can and to hopefully leave the world a better place."
Jason: 2) You have amazing books like "The Raven and the Witch Hunter" Books and "Dream of Darkness". For someone interested in reading a book of yours which book of yours would you recommend someone to read first?
Heather:
"In terms of my books, I would start with dream of darkness as it started things off, but books 4 and 5 could be technically read first, as they do follow girls who weren’t the main character in book 1-3."
Jason: 3) Briefly describe your newest release and where is the best way someone can get some of your books?
Heather:
"My latest release is a novella, The wedding, which is book 3 in the novella series The Raven and the Witch Hunter. I have recently returned to wide, meaning that anywhere people purchase ebooks I should be available. I’m also available locally in a few stores in Calgary, Canada."
Jason: 4) From your newest release who is your favorite character and why?
Heather: "Oh my favorite character is Emma Jane all the way! She grew up with heartbreak but has kept going against all odds and is just a truly amazing person."
Jason: 5) What advice would you give to someone who would like to write great books like you have?
Heather:
"To anyone who wants to write I say just do it! We all have a story somewhere inside us and the first step is to write it down. Then revise, revise, get someone else to review it, then revise it again! But I do think it’s something anyone can do if they want it badly enough."
CLOSING
"I really appreciate Heather for letting us know that she has always been motivated by writing itself. Whether it be poetry, novels, or any other form of writing. She is also motivated to be the best person she can be and to leave this world a better place. That is something that we should all strive to do. I'm going to keep that in mind and that's great advice on how to live one's life. For those of you that have not read any books from H.M. Gooden go to Amazon.com and buy "Dream Of Darkness." She has a lot of great reviews and it's a great way to introduce you to one of her many great books."

Donise Sheppard "Love Dust" An Interview with Donise Sheppard by Jason E. Foss
DONISE SHEPPARD
"Reading something powerful like a quote or a great story can literally change a person's day. Out of all the wonderful Authors out there I found a handful of them that are my Favorites. Donise Sheppard is definitely one of them. Many of us would like to know what motivates these quality writers. Donise was able to let us know more about her and what she is about."
Jason E. Foss
Jason: 1. What motivated you to create Love Dust?
Donise:
"Jensen Reed and I had just created Pixie Forest Publishing and were talking about themes we could use for our first anthology. We bounced around fantasy and paranormal romance, but eventually settled on just romance. That went further because we both wanted to open the anthology to include other genres, so it is about love stories rather than it needing a romantic element. The name and cover was much harder. Lol."
Jason: 2. What inspired you to bring these writers together for this book and was it hard to organize?
Donise:
"We opened the anthology submissions to the public. We posted in our writing groups, on our Facebook page, Twitter, and Instagram, that we were looking for authors to submit to an anthology of love stories. The response was overwhelming. We had around forty submissions, which was a big deal to me since we were still brand new. It wasn’t the easiest picking the stories. There were a couple of really good ones that we had to turn away and a few friends as well. Getting the authors together wasn’t difficult. We could contact them through email or social media and they’ve all been amazing at helping get Love Dust out there in the world. We couldn’t have asked for a better set of authors for our first anthology."
Jason: 3. What inspired you to write “Wildflowers”?
Donise:
"I have been on a historical romance kick lately, so right away, I knew I wanted to include a historical romance. “Wildflowers” started as a seven hundred word flash fiction story I wrote for a contest in a group where the opening line had to read “The window was open just enough to let in the cool night air.” When we decided on love stories, I knew I wanted Wildflowers to be included. I expanded it, naturally, giving more to the story, adding a character (Mr. Wilkins, if you’re wondering), and giving more life to my original characters."
Jason: 4. What is the best way for someone to buy Love Dust?
Donise:
"There are several ways to read our anthology! You can find it on Amazon, our website, or message Jensen or I for a signed copy. 😉
The ebook is on sale for only 99 cents for the month of December, so we hope everyone takes advantage of it!"
"You can read Love Dust for free with Kindle Unlimited.
https://t.co/NJxMIC2qUm
https://t.co/VCb7EP52Bm"
Jason: 5. Are you the only author in "Between the Leaves" and when do you expect "Between the Leaves" to be available for purchase?
Donise:
"Between the Leaves" is a young adult dystopia. Yes, I’m the only author in it. Right now, "Between the Leaves" is still in it’s rewriting stage. I was hoping to have it published this past October, but a lot of personal things came up and I fell behind on my goal. If I can get things back on schedule, "Between the Leaves" should be ready by summer of 2019."
CLOSING
"Working with Jensen Reed and creating Pixie Forest Publishing motivated Donise into bringing together a very talented blend of amazing Authors. The Love Stories in "Love Dust" are very well written. The Reader can easily picture each character and can imagine the scenery because of the great descriptions from each of the Authors. Go to Amazon.com and search for "Love Dust" and buy this book while it's on sale for 99 cents for the month of December. That's a steal and as you read each Author's love story you will be glad you took advantage of it."

K.L. Hagaman "In This Book You Will Find" An Interview with K.L. Hagaman by Jason E. Foss
K.L. HAGAMAN
"What motivates powerful Authors? That's a question that I need answered. Even though there are a lot of Writers that do great work I have a handful of Amazing Authors that are my Favorites. K.L. Hagaman is one them. She was able to give us an idea of what motivates her and also what she has in store for us in the near future."
Jason E. Foss
Jason: 1) What motivated you to write 'In this book you will find?'
Katie:
"My daughter, actually! Every night since she’s been born, we have a tradition of reading together as a family. One evening, about two years ago, she asked if we could write our own book. I jumped at the idea and asked what she would want the story to be about (she was 5 at the time), and she made a huge list! And it occurred to me, it would be really fun to write a book about all the different adventures literature can take you on! And here we are!"
Jason: 2) I really got lost in the colorful and creative background. Very beautiful and your words and illustrations really open up the Imagination. What inspired you to create this book in this way?
Katie:
"Awe, thank you so much! Truly! I’ve always been drawn to…vibrancy. There is such a beautiful palate in the world around us—more colors than we are even literally able to see! So to take brightness and contrast and mingle them together like I did in the book, I hope becomes a journey in and of itself. Books are such magical creations—gateways to entirely different worlds that can be visited through words as much as by illustration, and I wanted to express that!"
Jason: 3) One thing that really stands out about your book is that you leave extra blank pages for the kids or the future writers of the world? Very thoughtful of you. Why did you feel it was important to do this?
Katie
"I’ve always been of a mind that there IS a book out there for everyone. And I mean everyone! Even if that means they need to make it! By floating through different genres within ‘In This Book You Will Find’, I hoped to encourage young readers to explore, and to not throw in the towel if they read one or two books they don’t like. And if they can’t seem to ever find that story that speaks to them…then they should write it! Share it! Someone else may be waiting for them to!"
Jason: 4) I'm looking forward to supporting your new book 'The Awakening' on December 7th. Briefly describe what 'The Awakening' is about?
Katie:
"You’re the best! lol Seriously, your encouragement has meant so much! I’m really excited about ‘The Awakening’. It’s the story that speaks to me—that I’d always wanted to read, so, I wrote it!
It’s a fantasy series that starts off with a bang, right in the middle of a civil war brought on by the fears and assumptions of the unknown. There’s magic, betrayal, mystery, and powerful friendships. There’s drama, but humor. There are trials and grief, but hope!
The story follows the princess of the warring territory, Lilja, and her keeper, a unique guardian by the name of Kaden, as they struggle to overcome some very personal and dangerous obstacles before they can successfully help their people."
Jason: 5) What is the name of the main character in 'The Awakening' and what is your favorite quality of this character?
Katie:
"That…is a tough question. The way the book is written both Lilja and Kaden come out as main characters. But between you and me, and I guess who ever is reading this ;), Kaden is my favorite. He’s terribly sincere, passionate, funny, quick witted, and faithful. I can’t wait for you to meet him!"
If anyone wants to connect, they can find me on twitter at HYPERLINK "https://twitter.com/hagaman_kl" @hagaman_kl.
‘In This Book You Will Find’ is available now, on Amazon at: https://www.amazon.com/This-Book-You-Will-Find/dp/1717112080/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1543774847&sr=8-1&keywords=in+this+book+you+will+find
And ‘The Awakening’ will be available December 7th on Amazon in both paperback and kindle editions."
CLOSING
"So K.L. Hagaman is motivated by her daughter. Her daughter must love the book "In This Book You Will Find." Trust me if you have a child and you want to open up their Imagination and get lost into a creative book for kids of all ages go to Amazon.com and search "In This Book You Will Find" and buy this book. Reading a book like this to a child that you love and creating that memory is worth more then the money."

Tia Day "Lucy's Legacy" An interview with Tia Day by Jason E. Foss
TIA DAY
"There are many Amazing Authors out there! There are a handful of powerful Authors that are my favorites. It was very important for me to find out what motivates them. Tia Day is definitely one of those quality Writers that I am talking about. For those of you like myself that would like to know what she is working on she was happy to answer a few questions for us."
Jason E. Foss
Jason: 1) What motivates you to write or in life in general?
Tia:
" I was motivated by the topic itself. I have always enjoyed vigilante-type schemes, like Dexter,
Taken, etc. and have always wanted to write a good story about it. I don’t even know if I will keep writing after I finish this trilogy, to be honest. I have many hobbies and interests and tend to float from one to the next."
Jason: 2) What is Lucy's Legacy about?
Tia:
"Lucy’s Legacy is a psychological thriller. It focuses on the after-effects of trauma and how they can have a direct impact on your life and life-decisions, if you let it. Yet, for all it’s despair, I was intentional with implementing a fair share of romance and witty banter to give my readers a well-balanced experience."
Jason: 3) I find the lead character to be very interesting throughout the entire book. Does the main character remind you of yourself at all as far as your personality and other qualities?
Tia:
"I would say that “Cait” and I are similar in some ways, yes. We are both independently driven and have a natural inclination toward sarcasm in our conversations; and of course, we share a mutual hatred for crimes against children. Where we differ, is her preference to avoid social interactions and her struggle to trust others. Whereas, I am very social and tend to lean towards trusting, until I have a reason not to."
Jason: 4) When can we expect 'Isaac's Legacy' to be available on Amazon?
Tia:
“Isaac’s Legacy” is definitely in the works but I don’t have a projected release date, as of yet. That being said, if I had to give a rough estimate, I would say that I am aiming for it to be released sometime next summer."
Jason: 5) If given the opportunity, would you consider selling the rights for “Lucy’s Legacy” to become a major motion picture?
Tia:
"This question has a two-fold answer; yes, I am absolutely open to my book becoming a movie. In fact, I wrote it in movie scene format; this was a writing tip I came across early on and I believe that it helped me stay on track and avoid lags in my storyline and/or unnecessary filler information."
"However, I would not sell ALL the rights to it. If and when, the opportunity to make a movie presents itself, I would happily sign on the dotted line—but only if I am kept on as a project manager and casting director. As a reader myself, it can be aggravating to watch a book you love get poorly-translated onto the big screen; especially in regards to casting. Authors put a great deal of time into character development and their readers love their books for a reason. So, it’s rather annoying to see a character you love be altered in some way, whether it be looks or personality. For this reason, I would want to make sure that my readers are satisfied with the representation."
Link: https://www.amazon.com/Lucys-Legacy-Tia-Day-ebook/dp/B076KKSL21/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1550078726&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=tia+day
CLOSING
"So Tia Day is motivated by vigilante-type schemes like 'Taken'. I read her book 'Lucy's Legacy' and It was not only 5 star review worthy but also major motion picture worthy. It would be nice to see that happen in the near future. She has a lot of chapters so you will be getting your money's worth and each chapter is quality. When you get time go to Amazon.com and search 'Lucy's Legacy' and download Tia Day's book so you can see for yourself why her Readers are looking forward to 'Isaac's Legacy' next summer."
