Teresa McRae "Mamie Garrison" An Interview with Teresa McRae by Jason E. Foss

                                                                                    TERESA MCRAE

"Great Authors write for many different reasons.  Most importantly they write with a Purpose.  There is something about their story that motivates them to write it.  That's what makes each Author so unique.  It can be their own background or the message behind their book.  Whatever it is that gave them the determination to complete their great Novel they are an inspiration to us all.  Teresa McRae is one of these Great Authors.  She let us know what motivated her."

                                                                                                            Jason E. Foss

Jason:                "What motivated you to write "Mamie Garrison"?"

Teresa:

"I felt that I had something to say about the African-American experience in the mid to late 19th Century. The book began as a story about a Civil War widow. Mamie was a secondary character. In the course of doing the second draft, I realized the book was really about her. She is an interracial character, who felt that she needed to do more for the slaves. The story developed from there."

Jason:                 "What characteristic of Mamie Garrison can you relate to the most and why?"

Teresa:

"She is biracial, as is my daughter, granddaughter, and my husband through grandparents and beyond. I have been part of his family for 27 years, and I have watched my daughter navigate the issues of being biracial as she grew up. I often spoke to them about their experiences."

"Beyond that, I created Mamie to have many of the same characteristics as my daughter. Tenacity, courage, honesty, and a big heart."

Jason:                   "For your fans and book lovers briefly describe your book "Mamie Garrison"."

Teresa:

"Mamie is a woman who realizes she needs to do more to help “her people.” She engages the help of her husband John. Her story is told by her descendant Bella, who finds Mamie’s journals in the attic of the house she inherited."

"There are dual storylines between Bella’s current day life and Mamie’s in the past. There is genealogy, romance, history, and a touch of paranormal."

Jason:                     "Are you working on another book and if so what can you tell us about it?"

Teresa:

"There is a second book in the series titled Colin Garrison that was published in 2017. Colin is Mamie’s oldest child and goes on a hero’s journey that leads him to his destiny."

"Book 3 will be published sometime before mid-year this year. It is titled Emily Garrison."

Jason:                       "For those that want to read your book what is the easiest way to buy "Mamie Garrison"?"

Teresa:                       "Go to Amazon and type Mamie Garrison in the search bar. Colin Garrison is also on the                                      same page."

                                                                                              CLOSING

"Teresa McRae was motivated by her family members that are biracial.  She has been part of her husband and his family's life for 27 years and she was able to take her daughters and the rest of her interracial family experiences and implement them into this great Novel.  What I really like most about Teresa is how she uses dual storylines between Bella and Mamie Garrison.  She successfully makes Mamie Garrison's journals come to life and at the same time keeps Bella's character interesting throughout the story.  This impressive back and forth between Bella and the journals keeps the Reader engaged page after page after page.  Click on the Amazon link above and buy "Mamie Garrison"."
